Fraud Update - SMS scam targeting NHS staff
Published: 29th December 2022
Fraudsters are using SMS messaging to target NHS staff. They are impersonating Chief Executives and other senior managers to urgently request processing of invoices and other payments.
Do not to assume that text messages are always legitimate if they are:
- Out of the norm
- Urgent
- From someone very senior in the organisation who wouldn't usually text you
- If they are asking you to chase or process payments or click on embedded links in the text
Advice: Take a moment to stop and think before acting or responding.
Challenge: It's ok to reject, refuse or ignore any requests. If in doubt, stop and ask a colleague or manager
